Haiku Festival’s 2024 Guest Poet
James Moorehead is Poet Laureate of Dublin, California, and host of the Viewless Wings Poetry Podcast. He has published several collections of poetry including canvas, portraits of red and gray, and The Plague Doctor.
Morehead’s poem “tethered” was transformed into an award-winning animated short film, titled gallery, and set to music for baritone and piano. His poetry appears in Ignatian Literary Magazine, Beyond Words Literary Magazine, Citron Review, Prometheus Dreaming, Cathexis Northwest Press, and elsewhere. His “sonnet for a Neapolitan rooster” won 2nd Place in the 2022 Oprelle Oxbow Poetry Competition.
For the past two years Morehead served as guest speaker in Dublin High School English classes for 9th through 12th grades. Curricula included exploring “The Art Of Poetry,” “The Craft Of Poetry,” and how both topics impact young students and their lasting relationship to poetry.
Each April, Morehead hosts Poetry Walk, a National Poetry Month event where businesses showcase original poetry written by local students in their storefronts.
Join us Saturday, 27 April 2024, 10:AM, Harold Washington Library Auditorium, 400 South State Street for award-winning poetry and music by 8 to 18-year-olds. This National Poetry Month event is FREE and open to the public
